Address To Youth Of Islam (Iqbal's Khetab beg Jawanan-e-Islam)

                                               Address To Youth Of Islam
                                               (Khetab beh Javanan-e-Islam)

O Muslim youth!Didst thou ever try even thy sagacity,
What a constellation it was! Whose fallen star thou art,

Thou wast reared by that nation in its embrace of love,
Which had trampled under the feet the crown of Darius,

Creator of civilization, giver of constitution for running the world,
That desert-land of Arab that is, the home of  of camel riders,

Application of “humility is my pride” in the governance of state,
As a pretty woman is indifferent to the beauty aids,

In beggary too, those devotees of Allah were so high-minded,
That the affluent feared to approach them for offering alms,

In short what should I tell thee! What those men of desert were!
World conquering, sovereign, world administrators, world adorning,

If I wish! I could portray them in words,
But, that sight is more picturesque than my imagination,

Thou canst have any relationship with thy forefathers,
Thou art talkative, they were thoughtful, thou art inert, they were dynamic,

We lost the legacy that we had got from Islam,
The heavens knocked us down to earth from height of the Pliads,

What to mourn of the reign! It is a transitory affair,
There is no escape from the admitted universal law,

But those pearls of knowledge, the books of our forefathers,
If we see them in Europe, then the heart breaks into pieces,

Ghani! See the ill fate of Jacob who turned blind in separation of son,
His son and light of his eyes, Joseph, enlightened the eyes of  Zulaykha.
